[Weekend Herb Blogging] – flowery herb mix

weekend herb blogging

This weeks WHB is hosted by Rachel at { rachel’s bite }.

I am terribly late for this weeks WHB post but I was busy messing up the kitchen to bring up some “marillenknödel” for Johanna’s WTISM. This month it’s dumplings and have to admit I hate to make dumplings of any sort though I love to eat them.
But hey – it’s a challenge and a matter of honor as an Austrian to be able to make some propper dumplings! *argh*

Aye, this is why I am late…

This week I’d like to share a herb mix I recently came up with and like very much. I think its perfect for the hot temperatures outside ’cause you can use it to season your salads, light pastas or veggies.

Flowery Herb Mix to cheer up your mood

2 tablespoons sea salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons dried rosebuds
2 teaspoons dried calendula
2 teaspoons dried cornflower
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried bears garlic
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried thyme

Mix all well together and store in a dry can.

If you don’t have dried herbs or want to use the fresh ones from your garden simply combine all herbs cut them roughly and place on a baking sheet.
Dry them in the oven and grind them beween your hands or use a mortar.
It’s also a good way to use up your dried herbs and store them for winter times…

I used it for todays dinner:

Steak with roasted mushrooms, potatoes and scrambled egg

It was just a quick dinner I made after I finished messing up the kitchen. :^^:
All roasted in one pan, ready in about 15 Minutes. :;):

100 gr beef steak
~100 gr mushrooms
2 large cooked potatoes
salt, pepper
herb mix
oil
2 small eggs

Heat oil in a pan and roast beef on both sides aporx. 2 minutes.
remove from pan. Cut mushrooms and potatoes in medium pieces, roast in pan for 5 minutes.
Season with pepper and salt and herb mix.
Add eggs and stir well.
Add beef and roast for another 2 minutes (depends on how you like your steak :^^: )

That is so beautiful, and delicious smelling, I bet. I would put some of that in a bowl and set it out on a table. I think it would improve everyone’s spirit!

    Hi Astrid,
This looks like a great herb blend. I need to research calendula, is it the flower?

I sent you an e-mail saying I hadn’t heard from Rachel and that Ilva was going to host. The good news is that now I’ve heard from Rachel and she’s ok. She’ll be posting the recap for last week in a couple of days. I hope this doesn’t confuse people for your week! I’ll send you my own link on Thursday, right before I go on my trip.

Great idea! I’d love to try and make it, using some of the herbs from my new herb garden. I use an herb mix I get at our Farmers’ Market to season potatoes for roasting. I am sure your mix would be delicious too. Vielen Dank!
